*2) Meeting on Fifth Street redesign

Thursday, August 5
6-8 PM*
*Davis Bicycle Advisory Commission, *joint meeting with
*Safety and Parking Advisory Commission*
*Davis Police Dept.
2600 Ffith Street* (at Cantrill, east of Pole Line)

The main agenda item for this meeting (in addition to Approval of Agenda,
Staff and Commissioner Comments, Public Communications, and other business)
is:

"Evaluation Measures The purpose of this joint meeting is to solicit input
on final evaluation measures to assess the performance of the project after
implementation. This meeting is informational and no action will be taken by
the Commissions. The public is encouraged to participate." (Text in quotes
taken from the meeting agenda packet; download the
packet<http://cityofdavis.org/meetings/safety/SPAC_BAC_packet.pdf>for
more information on this item on page 3.)

The Fifth Street redesign faced significant political hurdles before the
City Council voted to proceed with it last September. The latter decision
was the culmination of a hard-fought campaign by Davis Bicycles! Because the
project was and continues to be controversial, the city was charged with the
task of assessing the success (or failure) of the project, by measuring and
comparing travel patterns and safety considerations in the corridor before
and after construction of the redesign. We encourage our members to attend
this meeting, so that the interests of bicyclists and supporters of the
redesign get full consideration in determining the best way to evaluate the
success of the redesign.

*3) Registration is now open for the "World's Greatest Bicycle Parade" *which
will take place in downtown Davis on Sunday, October 3.
