*Some upcoming events of interest to Davis Bicycles!*
*
Tuesday, April 27*

*The Fifth Street Corridor* project is on the agenda of the Davis City
Council on Tuesday (April 27). Staff recommends that the Council approve the
project description for the purpose of initiating environmental review. The
staff report (PDF, 2.3 Mb) can be
downloaded<http://cityofdavis.org/meetings/councilpackets/20100427/06%20Fifth%20Street%20Corridor.pdf>.
(We are currently concerned that the staff report neglects some input
provided recenlty by supporters of the street redesign.) The council meeting
(open session) begins at 6:30. Fifth Street is item #6, which we expect may
come up as early as right before 7:00. DB! led a successful campaign last
year for the city to reconfigure Fifth Street between A and L Streets to
calm car traffic and add bike lanes. The city council's action is one step
required for before the project can be implemented, which we expect will
occur next year.

*Two events next Monday, May 3*

*City Council Candidates' Forum at Bike Forth* (immediately following
Bicycle Advisory Commission meeting, next item below)
Davis Bicycles! and the Davis Bike Collective will be sponsoring a
transportation voter forum to be held on the evening of Monday, May 3rd,
7:30-9:00 pm at Bike Forth, 4th and L Streets. This forum is devoted
entirely to transportation issues in Davis with a particular focus on
bicycle-related issues, including questions from members of the audience.
Candidates also give written answers to eight questions that were sent out
ahead of the forum. These questions and candidates' responses will be
posted on the Davis Bicycles! website.
*
Davis Bicycle Advisory Commission meeting*
5:30 PM, Mon. 5/3, at the Community Chambers (city hall), 23 Russell Blvd.
The main agenda item is Bicycle Commission Priorities, based on a list of
top issues and complaints fielded by the Bicycle Program at the April
meeting of the BAC, to be used as a basis for prioritizing projects. This
meeting is expected to finish in time for the Candidates' Forum at Bike
Forth (see above). Agenda available at
http://cityofdavis.org/meetings/agenda.cfm?c=29

*Bike Loopalooza, Sunday, May 16*

The DB! School Committee <http://www.davisbicycles.org/schools> and City of
Davis are sponsoring the first annual family event on the Davis Bike
Loop<http://www.davisbicycles.org/guide/bikeloop/>.
Bike Loopalooza will take place Sunday, May 16, from 10 AM to 2 PM, the day
before the Davis-Santa Rosa stage of the Amgen Tour of California. Up to 11
stations will be spaced along the main loop, offering information about
using Davis bike paths to get to school and other major Davis destinations.
Each station will have its own specialty focusing on elementary school
riders, including bike check, helmet check, skills course, face painting,
tattoos (soluble, of course!), bird watching, tree identification, and more.
A suggested donation of $1-$5 per participant (parents and kids) will help
defray the cost of putting on this event.

We need volunteers to help out at the stations, and "runners," to bike
between stations carrying materials. Secondary school students can be
volunteers and bike runners, with signed parent permission. Please e-mail
Christal Waters at chrystal2waters at yahoo.com if you would like to volunteer.

Davis Bicycles! is helping to organize the Tour de Cluck,* a bicycle tour of
chicken coops throughout Davis on Saturday, May 22nd. This will be a very
fun event and a fundraiser for the Farm to School Connection. More
information, including ticket
purchase<http://www.davisfarmtoschool.org/events.html>
