*Tour de Cluck Bike Guides Needed

throughout Davis on Saturday, May 22 - The Tour de Cluck! This will be a
very fun event and a fundraiser for the Farm to School
Connection<http://www.davisfarmtoschool.org/>.

funmaria at sbcglobal.net (no chicken expertise necessary).

Christmas lights for a short, fun loop around town. Unusual bikes such as

*And a few bike links for this month:
*
Over thirty years ago the developers of Village Homes had to convince the
Davis planning department that narrow streets were safe by demonstrating
that emergency vehicles could use them effectively. Now the City of Fresno
has done much the same thing as outlined in Overcoming Resistance to
Narrower Streets
<http://www.planning.org/practicingplanner/default.htm>(one of the
authors, Bryan Jones, is a graduate of UC Davis Institute of
Transportation Studies)

The City of San Francisco is using an iPhone
app<http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/11/17/BA141AK16V.DTL>to
figure out where bicyclists ride, why they choose those routes, and
how
development decisions or transportation changes might affect them. This is
just one of many studies using bike GPS to understand cycling behavior in
cities including
Winnipeg<http://www.gpsmaniac.com/2009/04/winnipeg-using-gps-tracking-to-devise-cycling-routes/>,
Portland <http://bike.research.pdx.edu/>, and
Minneapolis<http://www.lrrb.org/pdf/200715ts.pdf>.
Could a similar study here help to understand how we should best invest in
our bicycling infrastructure?

So where's Joe Davis?

The holidays are coming so shop local, shop by bike, and use this great Guide
to Green and Local Gift Ideas<http://daviswiki.org/Green_and_Local_Gift_Ideas>
.

Enjoy the Ride...
