*Fifth Street Campaign*At the Tuesday, September 8 meeting, the City Council
voted 5-0 to adopt a resolution in support of implementing the Fifth Street
Corridor Redesign. Thank you to everyone who made this possible by attending
the council meeting, signing the petition, or writing a letter of support.
We could not have done it without you! But our work is not done. Now we have
an opportunity to work with everyone in the community to make sure that this
project gets done right and works as well as we know it can. In the near
future the City will be holding a community workshop to provide further
details of the road diet and to solicit feedback from the community on the
specifics of the project. Until then, here are some things you can do to
keep things moving forward:
- Write a letter to The Enterprise thanking the Council for their
unanimous vote
- Check our updated web
page<http://davisbicycles.org/projects/5thstreet> for
the latest information
- Send your comments to the City of Davis
staff<http://cityofdavis.org/5thstreetcorridor/comments.cfm>
*Back to School / Bike to School**
Bike Rodeos*: Davis Bicycles! and the City need volunteers to help out at
the four upcoming elementary school bike rodeos. You can check students'
bikes for safe operation, help fit helmets, run the bike quiz, and assist
officers on the bike course. If you can help out at one or more of the
rodeos, please contact Christal Waters at chrystal2waters at yahoo.com
The four rodeos are:
*Birch Lane Elementary* – Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1:45 p.m.
*Cesar Chavez Elementary* – Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1:45 p.m.
*Pioneer Elementary* – Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1:45 p.m.
*Patwin Elementary* – Wednesday, Oct. 21, 1:45 p.m.
*City-wide Bike to School Competition*: Davis Bicycles! is planning a
year-long city-wide student competition for ”most bicycle miles logged”
and/or “most days bicycles are used to get to school” using the
Saveagallon<http://www.saveagallon.org/>web site to record the
mileage. A beta-test of the Saveagallon competition
for Davis schools is now in operation at www.saveagallon.org and we need
your help to test it. To test the site, create a new account, log in, click
on *My account* and then *SAG-settings*. Click on Team and select Davis
School-Beta to log miles under the Beta Test, which will run from now until
the end of September. By October 1 we expect to be able to announce it
district wide and open the competition.
*Film Festival 2009*

People Powered Movement Photo
Contest<http://www.peoplepoweredmovement.org/site/index.php/site/photo-contest/welcome>
Bicycle and pedestrian advocates need high quality images of biking and
walking to better communicate their work. You could win an all-expense paid
bike trip to Tuscany and a year's supply of Clif Bars.
Enjoy the Ride...
