**Wow, June went by fast. Summer is finally here and below are some local
Davis bike activities and events to keep you pedaling.
*Fifth Street campaign
*Davis Bicycles! is ramping up its support of the 5th Street redesign and we
will be sending out more detailed information about how you can help and
participate shortly. Until then, be sure to check our
web<http://www.davisbicycles.org/projects/5thstreet/>and
Facebook<http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=105676916834#/group.php?gid=105676916834>pages
to learn more about the issues and keep up to date on what is
happening.
*Davis Bike Club's Fourth of July Criterium*
Be sure to come downtown on Saturday for the 33rd annual Fourth of July
Criterium. Races go all day from 7.15 AM to 5.30 PM with the Pro Women's
race at 12.30 PM, and top pros Rahsaan Bahati and Chad Gerlach among many
others racing in the Men's Pro race at 1.30 PM. Check the DBC race team web
site <http://dbcraceteam.org/races> for more information.
*Wheels North*
is a 1100-mile, 11 day bike tour organized by DB! member Eric Norris that
recreates the epic 1909 adventure of two young cyclists from Santa Rosa to
Seattle. Tour dates are July 4-17. Proceeds from the tour will benefit the
Histiocyctosis Association of America in their efforts to fight a deadly
childhood disease. For information on the tour, including how to volunteer,
join the tour (for any, some, or all of the 11 days), donate, etc., see
http://www.wheelsnorth.org
Join DB! in bicycling to Fairfield School (four miles west of Davis) on
August 11 to attend the Perseid Meteor Shower Party, sponsored by Explorit.
Telescopes and binoculars will be available for viewing the shower. To
encourage more people, especially families, to ride to the Perseid Party,
DB! is looking for bicyclists to escort viewers to Fairfield School and back
at scheduled times. The entire ride from West Davis is along a path to the
side of Russell Blvd. If you are interested in helping escort viewers,
please e-mail Christal Waters at chrystal2waters at yahoo.com. It's a
beautiful ride out to the school and back at night, and a way to encourage
bicycling in Davis.
More information on community bicycling events can be found at

the Avid Reader on Picnic Day this year.
Sure Bike Pittsburgh had a great Bike-to-Work Day with over a hundred
commuters stopping in for their biker breakfasts. The real celebrations,
however, were after work at the Bike-FROM-Work Day
Party<http://bike-pgh.org/2009/05/16/500-cyclists-show-up-to-deliver-first-batch-of-pedal-pale-ale-by-bike/>in
conjunction with a local brewery. Over 500 participated and helped
haul
kegs of "Pale Ale by Bike" to the shindig.
If you hate your commute you might want to vent your frustration at my
commute sucks <http://www.mycommutesucks.org/>. On the other hand, if you
ride your bike to work you probably enjoy your commute and might want to let
others know how you feel <http://www.mycommutesucks.org/compliment.html>.
Missed Lance Armstrong and Levi Leipheimer at the Nevada City Classic on
Fathers Day? You can still see film of the race
Here<http://nevco.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?view_id=5&clip_id=463>
.
Enjoy the Ride...
