*June Announcements*
May is over, but the May is bike month web
site<http://www.mayisbikemonth.com/>will be open to log your May miles
through next Wednesday, June 3rd, so you
can log the miles you haven't logged yet because you've been too busy
bicycling. Thanks to everyone who registered their miles with Davis
Bicycles! We had a pledge of 2958 miles and we are over 90% of the way there
as of this evening. As soon as the numbers have been compiled we will send
out a note with how well Davis and Davis Schools did with their millage
goals.
*
Fifth Street corridor*
Thanks to all who spoke and wrote to the city council in support of the
Fifth Street road diet in early May. The council opted to continue the
process to study the corridor, rather than to simply implement the road diet
as we would have wanted. Nevertheless, some progress was made in favor of
our position. Those speaking in favor of the road diet far outnumbered those
asking the council to stay the course of completing the full study favored
by staff. The council directed staff to shorten the process and direct more
attention toward the specific costs of implementing the road diet (mainly
reconfiguring traffic signal poles at F and G Streets). The study process is
expected to continue well into the summer. For more details on the council
meeting and up-to-date news, check our 5th street web
page<http://www.davisbicycles.org/projects/5thstreet>
.
