*Welcome to the February Davis Bicycles! Announcements*.
Thanks to everyone who attended our schools meetings in January and helped
make them so successful. The first two projects the schools project group is
focusing on are bike parking and safe routes to schools. If you are
interested in participating please contact Christal
Waters<chrystal2waters at yahoo.com>or sign up for the DB
Schools<http://lists.davisbicycles.org/listinfo.cgi/schools-davisbicycles.org>list
serve.

February's project meeting will be an organization meeting to plan for a May
Bike Celebration during bike-to-work week. Time and place have not yet been
finalized, but it will be in the last week of February, after all the Tour
of California madness has abated. In the mean time, contact Leo
Rainer<lirainero at gmail.com>if you would like to help.

*Upcoming events**
*** *UC Davis Bikeway & Transit Study Workshop*
Thursday, February 5, Noon - 2 p.m. or 4 - 6:30 p.m., UC Davis Freeborn Hall
Join UC Davis campus planners for an open house comment session to review
the draft bikeway and transit network plan. Information and materials for
review are available at the project web site:

*First Stage of the Tour of California
*Sunday, February 15, 12 Noon*
* Some general information for you to share with friends, colleagues,
family, and neighbors:

   1. The viewing crowd in Davis is projected to be 10,000 (if it rains) to
35,000 (in great weather). Davis residents will be asked to walk or cycle on
that day simply to keep traffic manageable.
   2. Those coming from out of town who can feasibly take Amtrak are
encouraged to bring their bikes on the train and enjoy the day car free.
   3. Parking in the core area of Davis will essentially not exist.
Parking Lots (there are a few) will be designated for Key Amgen support.
Street parking will be limited. Spectators and volunteers who drive to Davis
on Hwy 113 or I-80 will be directed to peripheral parking on the UC Davis
campus and shuttles will bring people into the core area. Or bring your
bikes, park in the outlaying lots and cycle for the day
   4. Pre-race program at the start line (approximately 3rd and C Streets)
will begin at 11:15 am; Rider Call-up is scheduled at 11:50 am, and the race
   will begin at 12 Noon.
   5. The Davis Bike Club is sponsoring a Junior Criterium: three levels for
junior riders, boys and girls, on the race course immediately following the
   start of the Tour.

Staff will be preparing a report for the meeting and will make it available
for review on the City web site the week prior. On the 17th staff will
provide the City Council with a summary of their preliminary
community/stakeholder outreach efforts. The City Council will also be asked
to establish priorities for the Corridor to help guide the next step of data
collection and devising alternatives. For more information go to our 5th

*Davis-Woodland Alternative Transportation Corridor Community Meeting*

study process, identify preliminary goals and schedule, and obtain public
input. There will also be one or two future public meetings to share the
results of the public outreach and present the findings of the feasibility
study.

*LCI Training Course*
The League of American Bicyclists will be holding an instructor training
course in downtown Sacramento this Spring, on February 27, 28 and March 1st

another 15 League Certified
Instructors<http://www.bikeleague.org/programs/education/seminars.php>(LCIs).
