*Welcome to the December Davis Bicycles! Announcements*.
The days are getting short, cold, and foggy, but you can still enjoy
bicycling - just make sure you are well lit and warmly dressed. Here is a
fun little video done by the Vancouver Area Bicycle Coalition about getting
visible at night - *L**ets Get Visible*:

For some more local fun check out the *Full Moon Bicycle Cruise* starting at
Rainbow City at 8PM this Friday. The ride will be to DISC for the RoLLeR
DiScO Benefit Party for Whole Earth Festival
*Project Meeting*
We will not be having a December project meeting, but we are working on the
January meeting and are planning on two topics - Bikes in Davis schools and
bike hazards in Davis. If you have suggestions or would like to help please
drop a note to info at davisbicycles.org. In the mean time check out the new
Davis Wiki bike hazard page: http://daviswiki.org/Bicycle_Hazards.
*First Stage route of the Tour of California* (which starts in Davis!) has
been announced:

Davis is planning a lot of fun activities around the race, including a
juniors race after the peloton leaves Davis, right on the same course near
central park, and the jumbotron will be downtown so you can watch the race
once it leaves the city.
If you are interested in being a volunteer for the start you should go right
away to the Amgen site at:
http://www.amgentourofcalifornia.com/Tour/volunteer.html and sign in.
*5th Street*
There is still opportunity to provide input to the City on the 5th street
corridor. Check out the 5th street page on our web site for more
information:

*Amazon.com is now shipping local bike commuter Paul Dorn's new book
(co-written with Roni Sarig), The Bike to Work Guide: What You Need to Know
to Save Gas, Go Green, Get Fit. This means it will soon be available at
local bookstores, bike shops, sporting goods retailers, etc. See:
http://tinyurl.com/biketoworkguide
It's a very basic introduction to bike commuting and might be a useful tool
to help persuade a friend to try commuting by bicycle.
Be sure to check out Paul's bike blog at
http://bikecommutetips.blogspot.com/
And look for Carlton Reid's and Tim Grahl's forthcoming Bike to Work Book:

"Using a Facebook application called "I Crossed Your Path," cyclists will be
able to make connections with each other by exchanging information - online
or through a smartphone - about which routes they took that day. With the
information it collects, the project might also help urban planners make
better decisions on things like where new bike paths should be built." From
MIT, a quantum leap in bike mechanics:
