---UC Davis Bikeway and Transit Planning Public Workshop---

UC Davis planners are hosting two workshops to gather detailed campus
bikeway and transit comments. At the workshops you can provide your
observations and ideas for current and future bike routes and transit
infrastructure. Please spread the word. We are hoping for very broad
participation and would like as many people as possible to attend. A
giant map (over 600 square feet!) will be available for discussing and
commenting on bike, pedestrian, and transit needs.

Tuesday, March 11th in Freeborn Hall from Noon to 2 p.m. or (identical
session) from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The workshops are intended to get input from cyclists, pedestrians,
and transit users about the campus facilities that need improvement.
Participants will be asked to identify locations for new routes, new
roundabouts, and new sidewalks. Additionally, participants will
identify prior accident locations and describe the factors that they
think contributed to the accident.

The workshops are the first public workshops to kickoff the UC Davis
Bikeway and Transit Network Study (BTNS). The UC Davis BTNS will
evaluate the overall campus bicycle, pedestrian, and transit
facilities to provide a comprehensive view of current and future
improvements. The success of Unitrans and the long successful history
of bicycle use in Davis present the campus with a challenge to provide
infrastructure for bicycling, walking, and transit at a much larger
scale than most communities. Major bike paths and intersections must
be sized to accommodate large volumes of cyclists and all campus
routes need to address interactions between pedestrians, cyclists, and
transit vehicles. Community members will provide input at public
workshops and focus groups to identify the highlights and deficiencies
of current conditions. Based on this input, a review of existing
campus facilities, and professional design guidance, the planning team
will produce a new plan for campus bikeway and transit improvements.
The resulting plan is expected to rely heavily on the observations of
the day-to-day users but will also address, among other items:

o Off-street or on-street? Where should we encourage biking?
o UC Davis specific design standards for constructing bicycle improvements.
o Cost estimates for the projects and funding opportunities.
