Odds and ends--

* Frank Child, one of the people that brought bike lanes to Davis, has died. He was 86, and came here to participate in the Bike Lane Pioneer Forum in September '07. I had the privilege of meeting Frank and his wife Eve last January and hearing them talk about their efforts to bring bike lanes to Davis. We'll have a large card to sign at the meeting on Thursday. We're proposing that the Villanova/14th/Drexel/Loyola corridor be named the "Frank and Eve Bikeway" in their honor.

* The Bike Lane Pioneer Forum will be broadcast on DCTV on Feb 29th and March 6th, sometime around 6PM (info at http://dctv.davis.ca.us ?? does anyone see a schedule on the site?). Featuring Frank Child, Donna Lott, Bob Sommer, Duane Copley and Mel Ramey. It's a wonderful opportunity to hear the story of how bike lanes were invented here in Davis and spread out across the country, and the long, hard slog it was to convince city leaders that bike lanes were needed and desirable. Davis didn't become the Bicycle Capital by accident, and unless we actively emulate the efforts of our predecessors to support and celebrate bicycling, bicycling will continue to decline.

* Unitrans is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, with a pioneer forum on Feb 29. Come hear the story of those who brought this country's only double-decker buses and student-owned transit company to Davis. Details in Aggie, Enterprise and the unitrans website.

* I'm moving to the Portland, OR area. Instead of having a farewell bash, everyone is invited to come on a lunar eclipse bike ride. Meet at Central Park Wed the 20th, ride out the outer Wildhorse Loop to watch the lunar eclipse. And we'll check out progress on the Covell Tunnel on the way back (38 years in planning, finally opening next month!)

* Remember the "Tour De California" race--today (Tuesday) at 1PM?, downtown Davis. California's version of the Tour de France, complete with corporate sponsor.

President, Davis Bicycles!
