Davis Bicyclists:
The 2007 Davis Bike Plan is in progress. There are two upcoming public meetings.
Dates: Monday Oct 1, Monday Oct 15
Times: 7-9PM
Location: Veterans Memorial Bldg (14th and B--on the Davis Bike Loop).
--if we can have a strong showing it will help our chances of getting a strong bike plan--
The Basics:
* Davis Bicycles! submitted a "Citizens' Bike Plan" in August,
* Public Works and the Davis Bicycle Commission have been working on integrating our plan with the 2006 plan.
* The new plan is coming along slowly--Public Works is understaffed and John Berg is volunteering his time
* The plan must be signed off by council by mid-November to be eligible for SACOG funding in 2008.
At this point, we can't expect an end-all/be-all document. But we can realistically expect to have these specific additions:
* include a complete appendix of "capital improvement projects"--the big price-tag items that need to be planned years in advance--bridges, tunnels, new bike lanes.
* include a map of the city with the existing bike route system, proposed improvements, *and* the improvements proposed by other bike plans relevant to Davis (i.e. Yolo County, Solano County, UC Davis, Caltrans and SACOG).
* include the policy proposals from the "Citizens' Bike Plan"
Come to the meeting and voice your support for these and other issues, and/or email your comments to Bob Clarke at Public Works, John Berg on the Bicycle Commission, and "Davis Bicycles!" BClarke at cityofdavis.org; jrberg at ucdavis.edu; info at davisbicycles.org
Questions or comments or clarification requests? Drop me a line.
See some of you on Monday!
